Halloween Memories……….

Image-1It has been a beautiful fall season in Utah this year. Yesterday which was Halloween, we set a record for the warmest temperature on record, a blissful 77 degrees.  It was so warm that you didn’t even need a sweater.  We enjoyed driving around and seeing the children in their costumes, houses decorated for the holiday, attending my sister-in-law’s annual Halloween party and seeing Alec and Emmett in their costumes.  Alec was a smoke-faced fireman and Emmett was a very cute tiger with real war wound stitches on his forehead, pictures to come.  I am still recovering from invasive oral surgery of bilateral mandibular tori removal and bone fragments with smoothing under general anesthesia. I have been on a diet of soft ice cream, puddings, mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, smoothies, smooth soups  and will continue to be for a few more weeks.  I am gaining weight because I usually have lots of vegetables and many delicious fresh salads.  However, I have to keep doing what I am doing so I can recover before the next surgery which will be of the upper section of my mouth.  I guess it was pretty fitting that I had such a gruesome surgery during the Halloween month.  LOL!

I definitely don’t like the gruesome nature that Halloween brings out but I do enjoy the fantasy aspect of the holiday and especially the children’s costumes.

“This is Halloween”

Goblins on the doorstep,
Phantoms in the air,
Owls on witch’s gateposts
giving stare for state,
Cats on flying broomsticks,
Bats against the moon,
Stirrings round of fate-cakes
With a solemn spoon,
Whirling apple parings,
Figures draped in sheets
Dodging, disappearing,
Up and down the streets,
Jack-o-lanterns grinning,
Shadows on a screen,
Shrieks and stars and laughter —
This is Halloween!

I hope everyone had a “spooky” and safe Halloween!
