Life throws twists, turns, boulders and potholes in our everyday path of life. You need to prepare yourself for the unexpected because it happens to all of us. No one is exempt. My husband didn’t feel very well on Friday morning. He told me that it felt like someone was standing on his stomach. We took him to the emergency room at 4:00 pm and by 5:50 we knew that he had a date with the surgeon that evening.
Our daughter immediately came over to the emergency room bearing gifts of two handwritten notes from Alec and Emmett. Alec was so concerned about grandpa! His note was precious. He taped a few candies and a bouncy ball to the paper. The priceless part of the card were the following words, “Please don’t die.” There is a saying, “Out of the mouths of babes,” what a poignant statement Alec had written. We were all thinking this but none of us could vocalize our thoughts.
Emmett’s card was really cute too. He drew a couple of pictures and gave grandpa one of his fidget spinners and a “cashless Costco cash card.” There were many people thinking about and praying for our family. A couple of priesthood holders from our church came and gave Milt a priesthood blessing before the surgery. We know that our prayers were answered and a successful operation was performed. We are so thankful to have divine intervention available to us to help smooth over life’s bumpy roads.
Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger
Matthew 22: 16 And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?
Life is full of storms. It is our challenge to face them with dignity and grace. Thankfully even in this modern day we do not have to withstand them alone. The Lord is on our side and miracles still occur. Prayers are heard and answered. We have been blessed with leading-edge medical technology but sometimes even that is not enough. We must rely on our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ even they who created us. I like the quote I found about nothing growing without the rain. This little setback that our family went through has made us stronger and more grateful for our many blessings. We have learned to embrace this storm in our lives.
